“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Psalm 46:10 KJV
One of the hardest things for us to do in this day and age is to ‘be still.’
We live in a society that is always going, always doing, always moving. From the little towns to the big cities, there is so much hustle and bustle and very little stillness.
Yes, it is much more quiet in a small town than a big city but the people are just as busy!
Psalms 46 talks about being troubled, it talks about wars, it talks about the heathen raging. It ends with ‘Be still, and know that I am God.’
We need to learn to be still.
I believe many times, God is waiting for us to be still so that He can talk to us. Oftentimes, we expect God to catch up with us instead of us stopping where He is at and letting Him speak to us.
Individuals need to be still in their spiritual lives. You and I need to stop every so often and God speak to us. Turn off the music and the podcasts. Turn off the tv and video games. Seclude yourself, be set apart from everyone else. Be still and let God speak to you.
Institutions need to be still so that God can work in them. Imagine if the home stopped for at least 15 minutes, every one sat quietly praying, waiting for God to speak to them. Imagine how strong our homes would be. Instead, we have homes that are falling apart because they are so busy, they don’t have time for God or each other.
Institutions need to be still so that God can speak to them. Take a church, it is so busy doing the Lord’s work that it rarely stops to listen to what God wants. Services are filled with singing, preaching and announcements, I believe that the voice of God gets drowned out by everything else.
Don’t be afraid to be still.
Don’t be afraid to be silent.
Don’t be afraid to let God speak to you.
