Understanding the sacrifice need to follow Christ
“And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.” Luke 14:27 KJV
If you’re like me, every time you hear the word “cross” your mind goes to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. You hear the word “cross” and you think of Jesus carrying that cross up Golgotha, you see the Roman soldiers driving those spikes into the hands and feet of Christ. You can see in your mind, that cross being dropped into that hole and there hangs Jesus, for all the world to see. The cross symbolizes the sacrifice Jesus made by giving Himself for us!
When Christ tells us to bear our cross, He is telling us that we will have to sacrifice to be His disciple. For each person, the sacrifice may look different, but the sacrifice will still have to be made.
Are you willing to sacrifice everything if need be to follow Christ. Too often, people hold onto their loved ones, their friends, their jobs, their hobbies, their lifestyle instead of following Christ. Too many people want the blessings of the Christian life without the sacrifices that come along with it.
Bear your cross. What is Christ telling you to sacrifice? What is He telling you to let go and die in your life.
