Being A Disciple of Christ, Part 4

To follow I Christ, I must forsake all.

So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.” Luke‬ ‭14‬:‭33‬ ‭KJV‬‬

As we come to the last time in this passage we see the phrase “he cannot be my disciple”, let’s look quickly at the first two.

First we saw that to be a disciple of Christ, you have to love others less than your love for Christ.

Secondly we saw that we need to understand the sacrifice needed to follow Christ.

Today we are going to look at the last requirement that Jesus states to be His disciple.

In my opinion, this one sums it all up. I think the first two give us clarity on what we must do to be a disciple of Christ, this last one finalizes the deal.

Christ tells us that to be His disciple, we must forsake all that we have!

Forsake means to renounce, to turn away from entirely. Christ is telling us to turn from everything we like to follow Him. Christ is telling us to turn from everything we love to follow Him.

Forsaking everything to follow Christ….that’s insane. I believe Christ is telling us that we need to have that spirit and the heart that is willing to leave everything we hold dear behind to follow Christ.

Are you willing to forsake all to follow Christ?

Am I willing to forsake all to follow Christ?
