Being A Disciple of Christ, Part 5

Count the cost!

For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?” Luke‬ ‭14‬:‭28‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I thought I was going to be done with this little series, but as I was driving to work this morning, I was thinking about what it takes to be a disciple of Christ.

I thought about loving Christ more than everyone else in my life.

I thought about what I needed to sacrifice in my life to fully follow Him.

I thought about what I was holding onto, instead of forsaking all to be a disciple of Christ.

As I was thinking about all this, the parable that Jesus used to illustrate these points crossed my mind. He told the story of a builder not counting the cost and not being able to finish his tower. Then he told of a king who was going to make war against another but had less soldiers to fight than the army he was going against. He decided to work out a peace agreement. He counted the cost and saved many lives.

To be a disciple of Christ, we have to count the cost. We have to realize what it takes to follow Him. It takes our all.

Many Christians want to follow Christ and be a disciple, but as soon as they see what it’s going to take, they become that person who shows up to church but lives like the world the rest of the week.

To make it in the Christian life and be a disciple of Christ, you will have to count the cost. You will have to realize and understand and accept whatever comes your way as you follow Christ.
