Turbulence In The Storm

Over the next few days or so, I am going to share some of the devotionals that my mom, Doris Hutton, has written. They are written from the heart and show how she has sought comfort from the Lord since my dad passed away in 2023. I hope they are a blessing to you as I have been blessed and encouraged from reading through these.

The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.” Nahum 1:3

Just think of our storms, the storms we face in life. Some storms are physical, some are emotional, and yes, some are spiritual. All of the storms have different perspectives. When I look at the physical storm up above, I see it from my side, under the clouds of the storm. I see those dark clouds, the rain, the snow, the wind as it surrounds me, but I do not see the other side of the storm from my viewpoint here. I have been on many airline flights and have flown above the storm before. I have viewed the storm below me from my airplane seat and have viewed the bright blue sky outside my window at the same time. I have also seen the dark, starlit sky above me as I viewed the dark, menacing storm clouds below me on other flights. I have also flown through the midst of the storm itself. The turbulence rocked the airplane as the lightning flashed all around me. I can even remember hearing the pilot as he announced that all should be seated as the seat belt sign had been turned on. Yes, being on an airplane does give many different perspectives to the same storm. As I think of our earthly storms, I also think of our heart storms. Those are the storms of loss, of grief, and of heartache. Our heart storms are usually too hard to bear alone and bring brokenheartedness to our soul. We need to remember that God alone chooses and controls the storms of our life as we walk side by side with Him. He has our entire life in His plan and He ever so gently holds our heart as we take our storms to the throne ofgrace seeking His peace, understanding and guidance. Yes, we see our storms from many different angles but ONLY God can be in ALL parts of the storm at one time. He can be above the storms we face, under those same storms and yes, in the very midst of every storm we walk through. He catches every tear we cry and never leaves us alone! He never makes a mistake as He controls every storm with us!

Please follow Him as His perspective of our life’s storms far exceeds our perspective! He is aware of our turbulence and walks hand in hand with us!
