His Reflection On Me

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

Have you ever thought about the light of the sun versus the darkness of the moon? The sun always shines, but the moon is almost lightless as it really has very little light of its own. The moon does have just a small amount of emissive light that we cannot really see, yet it shines brightly in the night sky.

So where does the moon get the vast majority of its light? Yes, from the sun. The moon is the canvas for the sun’s reflective light. The moon is subject to and responsive to the sun’s leadership, or a better term is help, to accomplish the purpose that God, its Creator, had for it.

I then think of the SON, the Son of God. He is the true light of the world…of my world. He never, ever stops shining just as the physical sun never stops shining. The Son continues from eternity to eternity. He has always been and always will be. He is the true light to a sinner saved by grace. His light reflects, or needs to reflect, onto and off of me to this lost and dying world.

I have nothing within me worth the world’s attention other than the Lord. Just as the moon is subject to and reflective of the sun’s light, I should be and desire to be subject to the Son’s light. The moon cannot light up the night sky without the sun’s help, nor can I light up this dark world without the Son’s help. Sin is ever present, so I need to be subject and responsive to His light and share it with this world just as the moon shares the sun’s light with the night sky.

Let us remember to humble our hearts and lives and be a true reflection of His purpose to this sin-sick world!
