My Lighthouse

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalms 27:1

I think about a lighthouse as I think about Him as my light, the Light of my life. A lighthouse is a physical structure used to emit light through lamps and lenses. It is used as a beacon to warn of dangerous rocky coasts and shallows of the sea and waterways. These lighthouses are important in guiding vessels to safety. They are elevated above ground level so they can be easily seen and are valuable in preserving and saving lives.

With all these attributes of a lighthouse realized, I think of my Lord, my Light. He is my light, my strong tower, my preserver of heart and life. He is my beacon, my light in this world called life.

He shows me the way I should walk, what I should do and how I should live. A lighthouse cannot take the hand and the heart of a mariner to save it from danger, but my Light can and does take my hand and my heart as He guides me away from, around, and yes, sometimes right through the dangers of this life. A physical lighthouse is also designed to have human presence to keep all the lights in working order, yet those lights can go out.

The Lord of my lighthouse is always with me. He is always tending the light of my soul and will never leave me nor forsake me. He leads and directs each footstep, each plan, each purpose. Even though I do not understand or see the direction of the plan and purpose He has for me, I can trust His leadership. Proverbs 18:10 says “The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”

We are never alone with the true Light of the world. He not only protects us from every danger; He walks hand in hand, heart in heart, with us!
