Glimpses of Purpose

In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:” Ephesians 1:11

We think of our life with our finite mind and by doing that we can comprehend what we physically see, hear, touch, smell and taste…through our five senses. Our senses help us understand what is happening to us and around us. But what about the parts of our life that we do not fully understand? What about those mysteries, the unknowns, of our life? What about the purpose that God has for each of us? I think of my purpose as a wife of 36 years. My husband was truly front and center in our marriage as he encouraged us to put God first. He is now enjoying his heavenly home worshiping the Lord at the throne of grace.

Hmm…what about my purpose now?

I looked out for the evening stars but could not see them through the thick cloud cover. Although I could not see the stars, I knew they were still in their places. I knew they had not moved or changed, but my view, my perspective had. As I continued to look for those stars, I was finally able to see the dark night sky througha break in the clouds. I had a glimpse, just a tiny peek, at the stars above me.

I think of the Lord as I am walking this new journey and have the assurance that the same God who hung the stars in their place has me in my new place. His place is His plan, His purpose for me. He gives me peeks, yes glimpses, of the plan and purpose for me. He does not show me every bit of everything I will go through as a widow now. He knows it would be overwhelming for me just as He did not show me everything that our marriage and my husband’s death would entail. He does give me glimpses of purpose in my new assigned seat just like He gives me glimpses of the stars that light the night. May we always keep our perspective on our purpose right.

Let’s look for the glimpses He gives us and trust Him for what we cannot see!
