“He should have fed them also with the finest of wheat: and with honey out of the rocks should I have satisfied thee.” Psalms 81:16
Sweetness out of strength? Honey out of a rock? His strength, His almighty strength yet His sweetness, His tender sweetness, both in the same rock? What a thought to ponder!
I think of the strength of a rock. A rock is very dense and is hard to break without the proper tools. They are used for heavy duty projects that are needed for stability. Then I think about my Lord’s strength. He has shown me and has allowed me to share in the blessings of that very strength. He is my strong shoulder to cry upon as He is with me through my happiness, my tears, my sickness, my sadness, my rejoicing. The Bible tells me that His yoke is easy and His burden is light. He is right here with me sharing the load of my burdens as He carries them to the foot of His cross. His strength is evident throughout each and every day.
And then…His sweetness!?! Honey is sweet; it is soothing; it is delicate. We use the delicate qualities of honey as part of our daily dietary needs. Honey is rich in many nutrients that our physical body needs. We also use honey for many different medicinal needs. It can be used for skin hydration, for infections and diseases, and is even proven to help with sleep disorders.
Yet, His sweetness is encased in His strength! He has ever so sweetly wrapped His arms of love around my heart. It is so amazing to think about what He sees in me. He does not see my sin but the blood, His own blood. Oh my, how can the rock, the Rock, be so strong yet so delicate and so sweet at the same time? He truly is sweeter than honey!
The next time you see a rock or taste that spoonful of honey, remember to thank the Lord for both His sweetness and His strength!
