“One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.” Psalms 27:4
Think of the dark swirling storm clouds that span the heavens above. The turmoil amid the clouds, the wind, the cold, the moisture all swirling so tightly together. They are amassing more and more strength until eventually the turmoil explodes. It does not really explode but storm clouds do open their arms and unleash the vengeance and violence of the storm. Wind whips about, rain pelts down and changes from rain to snow as the temperature drops. Huge, heavy water-laden snowflakes drop fast and furious. The snow continues on and on as the wind whips it about. Visibility dims throughout the turmoil as wind-whipped snow settles into a thick heavy blanket. The snow covers everything in its path, from the trees, the sidewalks, the ground, the vehicles, the housetops, oh, so much more.
Yes, the turmoil of the storm subsides and we are left with the beauty of the snow. The white, glistening blanket not only nourishes our landscape of grass, trees, and bushes, but it also reminds my heart and soul of my sins being washed whiter than snow. My Lord braved the turmoil of the storm of sin, of hate, of underserved shame as He walked up Calvary’s hill. He willingly spread His arms out to be nailed to the cross, not for what HE had done in sin, but for what I have done. He chose and faced that turmoil for me. He endured the storm of crucifixion andin return brought about the beauty of salvation. Salvation is so undeserving yet so beautiful to a simmer saved by grace.
When we go through turmoil let us remember the turmoil that Christ chose to go through for us! Then thank Him for the beauty that He freely gave us, the beauty of salvation by His blood!!
