“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” Colossians 3:1-2
I read this chapter this morning in my Bible reading and I don’t know if there has ever been a time where I needed a specific chapter in this point of my life.
Sometimes in life, we get our focus off of Christ and start to focus on the things around us. We may start to focus on our family or our work or maybe we start to focus on our hobbies and things we like doing. We may start to focus on things that aren’t necessarily wrong or wicked, but these things have taken our focus off of Christ.
Sometimes, we do focus on and seek after those things that are wrong, those things that are wicked. In the eyes of God, if I’m not focused on Him, then I am wrong and I have sinned, no matter what it is.
Verse 1, starts out with “If ye then be risen with Christ…” Paul is talking to the Christian, the saved child of God. The only way we can be risen is if we are risen with Christ through salvation.
He then states “seek those things which are above…” Paul is saying “hey Christian, seek after Christ and the things above. Don’t worry yourself with the things of this earth.”
Seeking requires action. Seeking requires desire. Seeking requires us to do something. You’ll never find what God has for you if you don’t seek after the things above. Too often, we are seeking for happiness and comfort and peace and fulfillment in the people and things around us and we never truly find any of it. We never find it because we are looking in all the wrong places, the wrong people and the wrong things.
When you seek after the things of God, you will find the peace and joy and comfort that only He can give.
