Blankets of Comfort

II Corinthians 1:3 “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;”

Oh, the comfort of the blankets on my bed…especially throughout the storms. Lots and lots of snow is piled up outside yet I wake up under a pile of blankets that I have snuggled under throughout the cold night. My first thoughts while lying in bed go to thankfulness to the Lord. I thank Him I have a place to live as Irealize many people are unfortunate and live out on our city streets and under bridges. Their ‘waking up’ is colder, so much colder, than our waking up. Not only do I have a comfortable place to live, to stay warm, to be protected from the elements, I have a bed to lie upon. My bed is complete with snuggly, wuggly sheets and blankets.

As I knelt by my bed this morning in my ‘hiding place’ with the Lord, I saw the pulled back blankets and felt the cool, crisp sheets. My heart was immediately thankful for the comfort they provide and then I sobbed thanking God for His comfort. Yes, He blesses me with the physical comfort of bedding and He also comforts my heart with His arms of love. How does He wrap His arms of love around me? He wraps them so tenderly and gently as I meet with Him at the throne of grace. He holds my heart and whispers His love and comfort through His still small voice and the balm of Gilead. He also wraps His loving arms around me as I explore His Word, the Bible. So many verses advise me how to walk this Christian way, yet so many, many verses show me His love, grace, mercy and yes, comfort. Adding great preaching and God honoring songs and hymns fill my heart with His comfort. He truly is the Great Comforter.

Daily thank God for the comfort of your bed and blankets. More importantly, make sure to kneel at the foot of the cross and thank Him for His comforting embrace to your soul!
