“I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy, For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now; Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.” Philippians 1:3-7
We see in these verses that Paul is thankful for those in the church at Philippi. He then states that he prays for them consistently. Paul is thankful that he has fellow believers to fellowship in the Gospel with!
How much better would our churches be if we prayed consistently one for another? Not just when there is a health need or a financial need, but just pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ on a regular basis.
The verse I want to draw your attention to is verse six. “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:”
First thing I want to point out is that God is the one who begins a good work in us. All our works, all our deeds, no matter how hard we try, are as filthy rags. If there is anything good that comes out of us, it IS because of God.
Secondly, because God began the work, He will perform the work. He wants to use us, but He also wants us to realize that it’s Him doing the work.
Thirdly, the work that God has begun will not be finished until the day of Jesus Christ. That makes me wonder what that work is. I believe it is preaching the saving gospel of Jesus Christ; that is the best work that we can do.
Let God use you to tell someone else about Him and His saving grace!
