“There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true. Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth. But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved. He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light. But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.” John 5:32-36
I know we are going through Philippians and tomorrow we will get back to that study. Tonight, I just want to share something the Lord spoke to me about in church last night.
We had a missionary to Zimbabwe at church last night. He has been on the field for 30 years. He preached a message, that for a missionary, was a little different. Usually missionaries preach about go into all the world to reach people, but this missionary preached about how we need to reach those right here around us.
He talked about the Light of the world, Jesus, and how we need to share Him with everyone we can. He then talked about how Jesus called John a burning and a shining light.
We need to be like John. John didn’t preach himself, he preached about Jesus. He pointed people to Jesus. He did everything he could and went everywhere he could to preach Jesus.
Am I a burning, shining light for Christ? Or do I hide the light of Christ that I have in me?
We let the things of this world, our jobs, our hobbies, even our families dim our light. In this day and age, we need to shine bright for Christ!
Be like John! Be a burning and a shining light!
