Born to Save: A Christmas Journey Through The Scriptures

Christmas in the Garden of Eden

“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” — Genesis 3:15 (KJV)

The story of Christmas does not begin in Bethlehem, nor with shepherds, angels, or a manger. It begins in the Garden of Eden, in the very moment sin entered the world. When Adam and Eve fell, we as humans, were separated from God, and death entered the human life. Yet in the same breath that justice fell, grace appeared. God Himself declared a promise: a Saviour of mankind would come.

I see this verse as the beginning of the Gospel. It declares that the Saviour would be born of a woman, not of man. His birth would not be ordinary. His birth would not be normal or like we should think. Christ wasn’t coming to simply repair what was broken, He was coming to triumph over sin and the grave!

Satan would get his licks in, when Christ hung on the cross and suffered the pain and agony of bearing the weight of the world’s sin. Satan would triumph for a short time of three days, then we see the victorious Christ rise again. With this, Christ became the offering and the payment for the sin of mankind.

Through all this, we see God’s plan for mankind. We see His love in sending His Son to pay for our sins.

What we celebrate as Christmas, is the fulfillment of a promise made in mankind’s darkest moment. From the garden, they looked to the manger and the cross and now we look back at an empty grave!

We have a great God! A God that planned our salvation before He even created us!
