The War on the Inside

“From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.” (James 4:1-3)

The battle that goes on inside each human being every day is the greatest battle ever fought.

Everyday, each person battles between good and evil, between right and wrong. Why do we have to fight this battle? Because, we as humankind, struggle with a thing called sin. Sin is in our nature. Sin is selfishness acted upon. Because of sin, we battle on the inside, we fight an unseen war.

When I think about the war that goes on inside of me, most times it isn’t something that we would deem really sinful….it’s usually a battle of laziness or pride or selfishness.

How can we win this war? How can we overcome the lust of the flesh, selfishness and pride? How can we become a victor in this battle of life that we all go through?

Submit yourself to God.

Resist the devil.

Draw nigh to God.

Cleanse your hands.

Purify your hearts.

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord.

Speak not evil of one another.

Over the next few weeks we will go through each of these things. We do not have to be a casualty in this spiritual battle! We have the Lord on our side, He has equipped us with what we need to fight and be victors.
