What the Lord Does for Us in the Hard Times

“But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.

I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.

I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.

Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.” (Psalms 3:3-7)

The psalmist here express that he is in great trouble. He starts out with a cry saying “LORD, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.” (Psalms 3:1-2)

The psalmist realized he was in great trouble, he was surrounded by the enemy. From the outside looking in, there was no hope. Even the enemy was saying that there was no help coming from God.

Have you ever been in a trouble or trial like that? It looked so bleak, so hopeless that people were saying, not even God can help him. I know I have, even right now, I have even doubted that God can fix me or even give me help.

He hears our cry.

The psalmist here states that he cried unto the Lord and the Lord heard him.

It doesn’t matter where you are at or what you are going through, the Lord will hear your cry.

The Lord hears us when we cry to Him for help.

The Lord hears us when we cry out in prayer.

It’s so good to know that the Lord will always hear us in our troubled times and in our trials. He hears us when we need Him most.

He holds us.

The psalmist states that the Lord sustained him. That word sustained means bear up, establish, hold. The Lord will hold you in hard times. He will hold you close to protect you through the storm. He will hold you up to keep you from falling. The Lord isn’t going to let you go through trials alone, He is right there with you, willing and wanting to hold you. Don’t push Him away. Don’t think that you can do it on your own. Let the Lord sustain you.

He helps us.

The psalmist cried out and said “O Lord, save me.” The word “save” has a meaning of “helping.” The psalmist was crying out for help.

We need help. It’s that simple. Especially in the hard times. We can’t go through life on our own, we can’t even go through life relying just on the help of family and friends. If we don’t have the help of the Lord, we will not make it through life’s trials.

Cry out to the Lord for help, He is waiting for your call, He will help.

We all will face hard times, just remember that the Lord is there for us.

He hears us.

He holds us.

He helps us.
