Driving home from St. Louis today and the song God’s Been Good came on. It has been one of my favorite songs for awhile but today, it hit the heart a little different.
A couple little lines stuck out to me…
And though I’ve had my share of hard times
I wouldn’t change them if I could
‘Cause through it all, God’s been good
It is easy to say “God’s been good” when life is going good. It’s much harder to say that same thing when life is falling apart.
It is easy to think of all the hard times that He has brought you through, and think God was good to get me through those times.
It is in those dark moments, in the middle of those hard times that it becomes hard to say, hard to even believe that God is good. You start to ask “why, me?” “Why do I have to go through this?” “Where are you, God?” You start to question what God’s plan is for your life. You don’t see any way out of the storm. You have no light in the darkest night of your life.
Life is not good! So how can you say “God’s is good.” How can you think of the blessings and the good things in life that have come from the Lord?
I’m right there in the middle of the storm. I was miserable. I was focused on the waves. I was focused on the sinking ship! I took my eyes off the Lord and focused on everything going on around me.
But something inside of me changed a few days ago, I stopped looking at the storm and started looking back at the One who controls everything in my life….the peaceful days and the stormy nights! I took my eyes off of myself and my problems and started looking at the Lord and at others. My outlook on life changed…the storm is still there, but I know the Lord will see me through. I know God IS good! I know that whatever happens, He will never leave me nor forsake me.
Yes, God’s been good! But I’m telling you right now that God IS good! He doesn’t stop being good! He doesn’t stop blessing you. He doesn’t leave you in the storm all alone. He is there for you!
God IS good! He has given me so much! I can’t complain! I can’t gripe! I can’t grumble! I just have to stop and praise Him for everything in my life because He is a good God to me!

Times replay and I can see that I’ve cried some bitter tears
But I felt his arms around me as I faced my greatest fears

And I’ve known more joy than hurt
As his grace rolled down upon me, undeserved
For God’s been good in my life

And though I’ve had my share of hard times

For God has been my father, my savior, and my friend
His love was my beginning, and His love will be my end
I could spend forever trying to tell you everything He is
But the best that I can say it is this
