Covering Sin or Confessing Sin

“He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. (Proverbs 28:13)

It’s simple, we are all sinners. We all do wrong. We all disobey God in some fashion.

The difference is some choose to go to God and ask forgiveness and others choose to try and hide and cover their sin. Like God doesn’t already know what you just did.

Proverbs tells us here that those who cover their sins and try to get away with it, those who hide their sin WILL NOT PROSPER.

As Numbers 32:23 says “be sure your sin will find you out.” We see different stories in the Bible where people tried to cover their sin and their life did not prosper.

Aachan took of the spoil from Jericho and tried to hide and in doing so his entire family was killed.

David committed adultery with Bathsheba and he tried to hide it by having Uriah killed. David lost the baby and his family had serious problems and lost other children after this incident.

Ananias and Sapphira lied about how much they sold their land and goods for and how much they gave and they were killed by the Holy Ghost.

These are extreme instances but the lesson is the same, your life will not prosper, you will hurt and lose those around you, if you continue to hide sin in your life. It may happen immediately or it may happen over a period of time but poverty of life will come upon you if you continue to hide sin!

But we have a just God! He continues on in the verse and says “whoso confesseth and forsaketh shall have mercy.”

God will show us His mercy if we confess our sin AND forsake or sin. He doesn’t want you to ask for forgiveness and then continue to sin over and over again. God wants you to forsake the sin and live a righteous life.

So the question today is, are you willing to risk the prosperity of your life and those around you to hide your sin? Or are you going to confess and forsake your sin and receive mercy from God?

It’s your choice, no one else can make it for you!
