If you read this title and know who I am, you probably thought “What does Caleb know about owning a business?” And you would have every reason to think that!
I don’t own my own business and I don’t see myself owning my own business, at least in the foreseeable future! I do have friends that own their own business and honestly, I am not jealous of them at all! Owning your own business is a lot of work! There are pros to it! And there are definitely cons to it!
Whether you own an actual business or not, that isn’t the issue…the issue is that more people need to take ownership of their own business. To many people are in other people’s business. To many people are focused on someone else’s backyard!
People always have to be involved in what is going on in someone else’s life…that’s why social media is so popular. Back in the day, before social media and cell phones and internet and all this technology, you had to actually work at being in someone’s business. Now, you can text, post, live stream and let the whole world know your business and also other people’s business. I am for technology, if used in a way that uplifts people and glorifies God!
So I have come to a conclusion that we all own a business. That business is our own! “The best business you can be in, is your own!” If we take care of our own business and focus on becoming a better person and not get involved in someone else’s business that we will be able to grow and be successful!
I’m not talking about not helping people and mentoring people and leading people down the right path; because lets face it, we all need help, because we can’t do life on our own!
If we are in someone else’s business it should be because they asked for you to be in their business for…
- help in making a decision
- for guidance through a trial
- for leadership or mentoring so that they can become a better person.
Don’t gossip about anyone!
Don’t spread rumors about anyone!
“Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.” Proverbs 26:20
“The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.” Proverbs 18:8
Your words can either help someone or hurt someone. Treat and speak about others the way you would want to be treated and spoken about.
Your business is your business! Their business is their business!
