How is Your Light?

“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16

We are to be a light in this dark world. Not just shining our own light, but the light of Jesus Christ.

We need to make sure that there is nothing in our lives, that would dim the light of Christ. We can dim His light by our sin and our selfishness. We can make it so that no one around us would even know that we had the light of Christ in us. Our sinful living can make it hard for the lost to see the light of Christ in us.

We need to live a life that is holy and pleasing unto God as it will shine His light to those around us. The Bible talks in Ephesians about how works do not save you, but they do show that you are saved. Same with these verses here, you cannot show the light of Christ to the world if they don’t see your good works. Our works, our actions can dim the light of Christ and it could turn someone away from Christ so they themselves don’t get saved.

Be a candle that lights the whole house and not just one who lives under a bushel!!
