Happy New Year!
We made it through 2020. Everyone probably has some battle story from the year, I do too. But I have some amazing stories of how God continuously blessed us last year and I’m amazed how good God is!
New Year, New You. I’ve heard this saying quite a bit throughout my life and I’ve always questioned it!
On our own, we can never become become ‘new.’ It’s not like you can just wake up one morning be a different person who changes everything in one instance. I do believe you can decide to change and then follow through on that decision to change, but you will still face challenges.
To become a new you, you need Christ. In Christ alone is it possible to overcome our old man and become a new creature.
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV
As we go through this new year, if you want to be different than you were last year, if you want to be a ‘new you’, you will need Christ. You will have to be in Christ daily.
We use this verse as an after effect of salvation. Once you accept Christ as your Saviour, you become a new man/woman in Christ and old things and old desires will pass away!
We can use this verse in relationship to salvation but when reading through this chapter, I see Paul talking about the Christian life. If we are to live a successful Christian life, we will have to put away the things of the world, we will have to put off the old man, and the only way is to be in Christ daily.
In Romans 12:1, we see that we are to present ourselves a living sacrifice to the Lord so that we can live out His will for our lives. If we choose not to sacrifice, if we choose not put off the the old man, we will never become a new person.
‘New Year, New You’ starts every morning with the first decision you make. Will you sacrifice your wants and desire and choose to be in Christ that day or will you choose to live in the old man for the day?
