I’ve been slowly reading through and studying and meditating on Psalms.
When I started reading Psalms, I did it because I felt like my heart needed it. I don’t know why but I do know that so far it has been a blessing to me.
I’ve only read through ten psalms and it’s been three weeks. But I keep going back and rereading them and meditating on them. I have been convicted and encouraged.
Too often, we try to speed read through the Bible to check a box in our Christian life. I was given advice by a friend about two years ago when it came to reading my Bible. He said to slow down and take passages and read them and then reread them, study them, meditate on them and enjoy God’s Word. That advice has changed my mindset on Bible reading and Bible study.
This morning, I reread Psalms 1-10 and there were a few verses that stood out to me but Psalm 8 captivated my attention.
I don’t have much to say about it except this…
We serve a great and mighty God! He is excellent! He is wonderful! He is my Lord!
“O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! Who hast set thy glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, That thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, The moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, And hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; Thou hast put all things under his feet: All sheep and oxen, Yea, and the beasts of the field; The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, And whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. O LORD our Lord, How excellent is thy name in all the earth!” Psalm 8:1-9 KJV
