3 Things To Do To ‘Be Still’

“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭46:10‬ ‭KJV
‬‬

My wife’s aunt was watching our girls this past weekend and she told us this story about our youngest, Brynne. Brynne was praying for lunch and she speeded right through her prayer, “ThankyouJesusforthisfoodamen.” Brynne was told to slow down so then her prayer was “T h a n k y o u J e s u s f o r t h i s f o o d a m e n.”

When I heard this story, I started thinking about how much God wants us to slow down.

In this crazy, fast paced world, we rarely have time for God or spiritual things! We are too busy working, spending time with friends and family and even sometimes too busy doing ministry work. God wants us to ‘Be still and know Him.’

So how do we ‘be still’ in this ever changing world?

1. Set apart time to ‘be still.’

You have to purpose and plan a time to be still. If you don’t have any time set aside to be still and talk to God, you never will be still. Most people live such a busy schedule that they waste the extra time they do have! Trust me, I understand, I’m the same way sometimes….it’s hard to just stop and be still and know God. Just like you have a time to go to work or go to church or go to a doctor’s appointment, you need to set apart and schedule a time to meet and walk with God.

2. Slow down.

Just slow down. Look at all the blessings God has given you. Slow down and see how God has taken care of you. When you slow down, you will have a better chance of being still and knowing God. Too many people never slow down in their busy lives. They just rush right on by everything God has blessed them with.

3. Find a secluded place.

Find a spot to be alone and talk with God. Jesus went up into the mountain to pray, He went further into the garden to pray. He found times and places to be alone and to be still so that He could talk to the Father. He was the perfect example for us. It’s good to slow down and set apart some time and then seclude yourself so that you can be still and know God!

Do You Know Jesus?

Do you know Jesus? As you read this statement, you are probably thinking “yes, I am saved.” But that’s not the question I am asking!

Do you know Jesus?

I believe many people have accepted Christ as their Saviour but that’s where there knowledge of Him stops. They don’t know Him any further, any deeper or any better!

“Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.”
‭‭John‬ ‭8:28‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Notice that phrase “When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he…” Here in this passage, Jesus is speaking to the Pharisees who were questioning whether He was the Son of God or not.

Jesus told the Pharisees that they would know Him when they had lifted Him up. I started to think about how well do I know Jesus? Do I know Him or is He just my ticket out of Hell? What am I doing to lift Him up so that I can better know Him?

How can I lift up Jesus so that I can know Him better? This should be something we ask ourselves everyday!

Through worship I can lift Christ up! I believe that we can worship Christ both publicly and privately, but how we worship in private is seen by how we worship in public. The thing about the Christian life is that it all starts at home. It all starts in your personal time with God. I need to worship and praise and show Him reverence when I’m alone so that when I’m around others, I can worship Him and not be ashamed or out of practice or have to force it. The world watches us as Christians to see how we worship Christ. If we lift Him up in praise than we will know Him better and give the world a chance to see and know Him also!

Through work I can lift up Christ. A great way to lift up Christ is through your work or service for Him. If you want to know Him better, serve Him more! The more you work for someone, the more you learn about that person. The same goes with Christ, if you truly serve Him, you will know Him better!

If you want to know Christ, do anything and everything you can to lift Him up! Make Him the most important Person of your day, let others know how important He is!
