Rise With Christ

It has been a few days since I last posted. I have been busy family, church and work and then trying to find some sleep in between all those things. We had a Preacher’s Conference last Monday and Tuesday at church and my cup was filled! I am thankful that I go to a church that still holds true to the King James Bible, still practices separation from the world, hasn’t gone contemporary and if anything has made a stronger stand for the things of God.

Anyways, I noticed a truth this past week in Sunday School from Colossians 3:1. “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.”

I want to take that first phrase from the verse and use it today to motivate and encourage us to have a better daily walk with God. It says, “If ye then be risen with Christ…” Every morning we rise out of bed to start our day, do we rise up with Christ on our mind or with the daily tasks we have ahead.

God is a God of order. You see that here in this verse. He says if you rise with Christ, then you will seek the things above, and in verse two you see that God tells us to set our affection on things above. You will never seek the things of Christ or want to set your affection on the things of Christ if you never start your day with Christ, if you never Rise with Christ!

No matter what time you start your day, you can rise with Christ.

How can you start your day with Christ? How do you rise with Christ?

First, wake up and thank Him for another day. Don’t start your day thinking about your problems and everything you got going on, thank God that you have another to live and serve Him.

Then you can start thanking Him for things He has blessed you with. You don’t have to spend an hour thanking God for everything, but spend a couple minutes just thinking about what God has given you and thanking Him for it.

After you finish thanking God, you should take and put on the whole armour of God as found in Ephesians 6. We need the armour of God for protection throughout the day. We will face the world, the flesh and the devil throughout the day and we need to be equipped in our spiritual warfare.

Lastly, spend a few minutes in God’s Word before you do anything else. You can read a chapter of Proverbs or a few Psalms or whatever you want, but spend time reading God’s instruction manual on life before you do anything else.

We have too many Christians, myself included, who do not rise with Christ everyday. These Christians then don’t seek after the things of Christ or set their affection on the things of Christ. These Christians fall into the worldly trap of money and popularity and forget what their real goals and focus and should be.

Rise with Christ every day and your affections and the things you seek after will change.

Blessed Be The Name Of The Lord

“And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”

Job 1:21

I was driving home from my part-time job last night and I was thinking about different issues and problems that I have to take care of in life. Nothing too out of the ordinary, just regular life problems. While I was thinking about what I need to do, a thought popped in my head. I thought to myself, ‘Man, the Lord really hasn’t done nothing out of the ordinary lately in my life’. Now I don’t know if that is a good or bad thought. I wasn’t trying to discredit the Lord for everything He has done in my life. Then I thought that we forget to take time to thank God for what He does for us on a daily basis.

Everything we have, everything we lost, the Lord has been in control. Today, I just want to list some of the ordinary blessings that I receive on a daily basis.

My health and the fact that I have been able to wake up every morning, blessed be the name of the Lord.

My wife and just how great she is. I know that I don’t thank her enough for everything she does for myself or our girls. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

My two beautiful, little girls. The joy and happiness they bring into our lives everyday. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

The house the Lord has provided us. It may not be the biggest and fanciest house but it is way better than we deserve. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

The car that the we have. It is a reliable car and my favorite thing is that it is good on gas. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

Both of the jobs I have to provide for the family, so my wife doesn’t have to work. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

The church I attend and have the opportunity to serve in. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

The King James Bible that I have the opportunity to read and study. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

My parents and my siblings, the family that I am blessed to be a part of. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

Safety and protection every day as we live in a crazy world. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

The friends that I have in my life who help and encourage me. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

The food that I am able to eat each day, blessed be the name of the Lord.

Although I feel that my life has been ordinary recently, there is nothing ordinary about the blessings of the Lord. Each day I should be extra thankful for the extraordinary blessings I have from the Lord. Everything I have, I don’t deserve. I could be in a position that may seem worse than I am in now, but the Lord has given me everything I need and more.

Take a moment today and stop and thank God for your life and everything that He has given you.

Blessed be the name of the Lord!

Thanksgiving Week

Here we are. It is Thanksgiving week!!!

I saw a meme the other day that went something like this…

October 1-31: Halloween

November 1-21: Christmas

November 22: Thanksgiving

November 23-December 25:Christmas

The sad truth is that, that is true. Thanksgiving has become just another day off. A day off to eat, watch football and prepare to spend/waste money on gifts that people will use for two days and then forget.

I am not going to sit here and tell you that I don’t enjoy the day off or that I don’t like eating. I try to watch as much football as I can without my wife getting too mad. And, yes, we do go Black Friday shopping. But, I do try to make it a goal to spend time in thanksgiving and thinking about everything that God has blessed me with and has done in my life.

We should make it a goal every day this week, to find something to be thankful for. Find something to be thankful for that is outside of the the norm, outside of the spouse, kids, house, food, car, etc. Find something that God has blessed you with in your life and thank Him for it.

Don’t get caught up in the hustle and bustle of this holiday season and forget to be thankful.

“In every thing give thanks….”

What are you thankful for? Tell me in the comments below!
