3 Profit Building Techniques For A Christian

When the word profit is used, we automatically think of money. How much money are we profiting from our actions in life? From our jobs, side hustles and whatever else we got going on, how much money are we bring in? That is the profit we think of.

Trust me, I am not going to give you a money-making scheme today, because that is not what this blog is about, nor do I have a money-making scheme to share. Today, I want to share with you, how you can become more profitable in your Christian life.

I was reading my Bible yesterday and I saw a verse in Job that stuck out to me and I have been thinking about it this past day. This verse is where I got today’s topic from.

“Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself.”

Job 22:2

I have been pondering that question, “Can a man be profitable unto God?”

I believe the answer to this is yes.

One of the meanings of the word profitable is beneficial, useful. Can a man be found beneficial or useful unto God? I believe the answer is yes, why would we be here if we couldn’t?

How can we build or usefulness towards God? Does God benefit from having us here on earth? What can we do to be profitable to God?

The first part of this verse is a question, the second part is a statement. “…as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself.” In the secular field, everyone is concerned about their profit. How can they be profitable to themselves? The people who wise in their work, in their money, in who they associate with, those are the ones who are profitable to themselves.

Whether we are profitable or not to ourselves shouldn’t be our main concern while here on earth. We need to be more concerned about being profitable to God and for God.

While I was thinking about this, I got to thinking that the Christian life can be summed up into 3 areas, no matter the topic. Your walk, your work and your worship are all vital to the Christian life. If you are lacking in one, you are not fulfilling the Christian life as God wants you to.

First technique in being profitable for God is you have realize that God has a purpose for you and that He wants to use you. “Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,” II Timothy 1:9 You will never be profitable for God, until you realize that you are a saved child of God and that He has a holy calling for your life. I am not saying that you are called to pastor a church or be a missionary or travel in evangelism, God has a calling for you to holy. For you to live your life as close to His Word as possible. We have to realize that our life isn’t to be wasted on the doing what we want, but it needs to be used serving the Lord in every way we can.

Second technique in being profitable for God is you have to recognize what is holding you back and get rid of it. You will never be profitable for God as long as you have something holding you back in your walk, work, or worship for Him. In Hebrews 12:1, it tells us to “…lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us…” We can have a sin that is holding us back or we can have a weight that is holding us back. What is a weight in the spiritual life? It could be a hobby that keeps you out of serving in ministries, it could be work taking up to much of your time, it could be sports keeping you away from the church. All those things are not sin, but they are weights which are hindering you from serving God. If you can’t recognize that you either have a sin or a weight, you will not be able to be profitable for God.

The third and final technique I have today in being profitable for God is refuse to quit standing for right and refuse to quit serving the Lord. The devil will do anything he can to get you to stop serving, to get you to lower your standards, to get you to give up when it comes to standing for what is right and for the truth. We need more Christians like Paul who once he got saved, went full steam ahead for serving the Lord. You cannot and will not be profitable unto God when you stop serving and stop standing. You then decide your way is more important than His and there is no profit in that.

When we live a life that is profitable unto God, that is the wisest thing that you can do. God will then bring profit to you in by taking care of you and blessing you.

So no, this isn’t a way to profit financially in our careers, but it is a way to profit from the blessings of God by living a life that is profitable to Him.

Steaks and Milkshakes

Steaks and milkshakes.

If I gave this choice to my daughter, it would always be milkshakes! Why? Because it is sweet and yummy and just a good snack! Most kids would probably choose milkshakes over steaks because its ice cream and sweet and sugary.

As an adult, I do love a caramel milkshake! But even better, give me a nice medium-well ribeye steak and I will be happy!

We went to Golden Corral a couple weeks ago and the chef grilling the steaks was fantastic that night. Honestly some of the best steak I have ever had. I had 2 of them, that’s how good they were! While I was wondering how I could get another steak, my daughter was concerned about getting some ice cream and chocolate covered marshmallows. We were at the same place, yet we wanted different types of food.

I love how the Bible is so profound that it is simple, yet so simple that it is profound. You see, there is something in the Bible for every stage of the Christian life. Whether you are a newborn Christian or an old-seasoned vet of the Christian life, there is something in the Word of God for you.

I have 2 girls, when they were born, they lived and survived on milk. They weren’t eating steak. They hadn’t grown teeth and a desire and appetite for steak. They needed that milk to grow. As they have grown up, they now eat meat, but they still like that sweet stuff more than the savory food.

In the Christian life, you need the milk of the Word to be able to grow. “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:” I Peter 2:2 Even God’s Word says that milk is need for babies to grow. We need the milk of the Word to grow spiritually!

But just like a child who can’t live on just milk, neither can the Christian. At some point, meat is needed, something with substance to it. A Christian has to have some meat or steak in his spiritual diet to continue to grow as a Christian.

I was thinking about the difference between milk and meat, between steaks and milkshakes and the simplest difference between the two is this; milk starts the growth, meat sustains the growth.

Milk or milkshakes is quickly and easily digested. There is really no substance to it. The milk of the Word of God, is the things that are easy to put your faith and trust in. The things that are clearly and precisely stated in the Bible. These things are milk. Take the 10 Commandments, to me that is milk of the Word. There is nothing that you have to study or decipher or even really consider, they are commands by God so we follow them. The standards and guidelines that God clearly gives us should be accepted like drinking a glass of milk. They aren’t always that easy to follow but we should, because that is the basis to growth.

Meat or steaks takes time to cook. You have to properly season it and cook it. You have to make sure whatever you are cooking it on is ready to go. You have to wait for it to cook all the way through. Steak takes time. There are things in the Bible that I have read many times before, but now when I read them, I just now see the truth in it. Steak is like meditating and studying the Bible. Steak takes longer to prepare and cook than a milkshake, but the savory goodness of it is worth it.

As I grow older, I love a good steak, but I still need to drink milk. You cannot live on just milk or meat, you need them both in your life. In the spiritual life, we continue to grow by drinking the milk, living by the commands that plainly given; yet, we need the meat of the Word. The things we can ponder and meditate on throughout the day.

Don’t starve yourself from one or the other! Enjoy them both! Get in the Word of God daily and feed yourself His Word! You will grow more than just attending church three times a week. Imagine if you only ate 3 times a week, after a while, you wouldn’t be doing so good. Read your Bible and pray everyday to continue your Christian growth.

Top 3 Posts of 2018 (Most Viewed)

This year, was my first full year of blogging. Blogging where I made it a point and a priority to blog on a regular basis. One of my goals this year was to post a blog at least once a week. I missed just a few weeks throughout the whole year.

I hope that I was able to be an encouragement to you and help inspire you to be faithful to Christ throughout the year.

I know that I am thankful for everyone who reads anything I write. I know that I may not have the greatest grammar or writing skills, but everything I write, I do my best to bring honour and glory to God and encouragement and motivation tho those who read.

What I found interesting from this year is that my top 3 most viewed posts all dealt with the same subject, Church. Church is crucial to the Christian life. Our attendance, our involvement is crucial to our Christian life. If we try to live this Christian life without church attendance and church involvement, we will stunt our Christian growth.

So here are the top 3 most viewed posts from last year starting with number 3.

3. 4 Tips On Making It To Church Every Week

Because attending church is important to the Christian life, we need to make sure that

we plan and prepare to attend every week and every service. Probably the point or tip

that I think will help the most in your church attendance is the last one I give.

Participate in the ministries. Find a ministry to serve in. When you do this, you will

make sure you are there so that you can fulfill your duties.

2. 3 Reasons Why You Are Looking To Leave Your Church

I start this post off with a statement that I think says it all when it comes to wanting to leave a church. One thing I have realized recently is that the less that I am involved in at church, the more critical and discontent I become. We need to be active in church serving God. When we are busy serving, we aren’t looking for ways to get out. Don’t put yourself in a position to leave your church by being critical and discontent.

You can read “3 Reasons Why You Are Looking To Leave Your Church” here.

1. When To Leave A Church?

In this post, I cover my list of guidelines of what to look for if the need arises to leave the church I am in. Some of the points in this post are doctrinal, some are preference, and some are just personal guidelines. At the end of the day, I have to make sure my family and I are in the right church. A church that will help us grow in our spiritual lives. If you do leave, don’t leave to go to a church of weaker doctrine and less standards than the church you are leaving, because if you do, you are not helping your family grow spiritually.

You can read “When To Leave A Church” here.

Church is important. It is important to our spiritual lives and helping us grow. Make it a point to be in church every chance you can this new year.

Look for ways to get involved in the church you attend. Look for ways to serve others in your church.
