Where Are All the Workers?

So this past weekend, my wife and I went out to celebrate our birthdays. It is definitely easy to remember my wife’s birthday since it is the day right before mine! We always sign up for clubs at restaurants just to see what coupons they send for your birthday. Since we have our birthdays on consecutive days, we always get two coupons for everything.

One of the restaurants that we get a coupon too is Golden Corral. They just opened one up here where we live not too long ago and we have been waiting until our birthday to go. Every time we have driven past, whether it was lunch or dinner, the line has been out the door. We got our coupons for a buy one get one free buffet which is a really good deal. We decided that we were going to go around 4pm to eat and then we were going to an arcade and play some games afterward.

We got to Golden Corral about 3:30 or so, expecting a line but we got in pretty quick. The best part about it is that we get the lunch prices and the dinner food. We ended up only paying $15 for the two of us to eat and for our sodas. That’s a pretty good deal in my opinion!!

You’re probably reading this and wondering where I am going with all this…

Well we get in and get seated fairly quick. While we were eating and enjoying the food and our time together we started to notice a couple things. First, there were always groups of employees walking around and talking, and only one of them would be actually working. Secondly, the customers at the table next to us left about five minutes after we got seated and the table stayed dirty until about five minutes before we left and we were there for about an hour. A six seat table didn’t get cleaned off for fifty minutes. Not because there weren’t enough employees, there just wasn’t enough labourers.

“Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.” Matthew 9:37-38

One of the biggest issues in churches today is that there are plenty of Christians but not enough labourers. Yes, I’m talking to myself as I write this. Too many Christians go to church to check the box of church attendance but they don’t labour for Christ in their daily life. Christians will fill up the church but they wont do any work in the church.

The Lord tells us that the harvest is ready, He tell us that if we go we will reap. I know that these verses are talking about soul winning and witnessing and we should go and witness, we should be faithful in telling people about Christ. Soulwinning is the main job of the Christian. We are to be witnesses wherever we go. We should leave gospel tracts wherever we go.

Don’t be like one of those employees at Golden Corral who just walked around and didn’t do a whole lot, don’t be that kind of Christian. Be one who works, who labourers for Christ. In the end, you will be blessed. You will be rewarded for your labour.

P.S. Overall our experience at Golden Corral was great and the food was very good!
