Pathway Through Proverbs: Chapter 9

Chapter 9: The House of Wisdom

In chapter seven, we saw the story of the strange woman. It told us how she had a house and she lured many strong men and many simple young men into it and destroyed their lives.

“Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:” Proverbs 9:1

Just like the strange woman has a house, Wisdom has a house. Wisdom has built her house to teach and help the young man grow and succeed in life. She is calling for the simple to come in, she is trying to lead them the right way.

Wisdom gives good instruction in verse six, ” Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.” This verse was given as instruction for the simple man. It is simple instruction that everyone of us should heed to.

“Forsake the foolish, and live…” Like I said a couple days ago, everything with God is black and white, there is no gray area. Forsake the foolish means to turn away, to leave behind, don’t hang out with, it means divorce yourself from the foolish crowd. Then the verse goes on and says “…and live…” Wisdom says, if you forsake the foolish, you will live. I think that this means that we will live a full life, a life full of God’s blessings. I also think that it could mean living a long life.

It is your choice with what you do with your life. God has already laid out the end of each path for us. If we choose the way and the house of the strange woman, we will find hurt, sorrow and death. If we choose the way of wisdom, we will find life, have understanding and be blessed. But it all comes down to your choice, your decision. So ask yourself this question, “Which path am I going to choose?”
