Pathway Through Proverbs: Chapter 12

Chapter 12: Hard Work

“The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.” Proverbs 12:24

This chapter talks about a couple different topics, one of them being lying lips. In verse 22, we see that “Lying lips are abomination to the Lord…” The verses above it also talk about be truthful or being a false witness. God puts a lot of emphasis on our tongue and what we say and if it edifies or tears someone down. Be careful what you say and make sure you always tell the truth.

I want to spend a few minutes on verse 24 though today. In this verse, I see two types of people. I see hard workers and I see lazy people. No matter who you are or what job you are in, you will fall into one of these two categories.

What I like about this verse is that it gives both sides of the spectrum. “The hand of the diligent shall bear rule…” Hard work brings success. You will be successful at your job and I believe that God blesses hard work. At the end of the verse we see that the slothful will always be under tribute. They will always be at the same place in life.

What this world is lacking today is hard working people. The majority of people do just enough to get by, just enough to keep their job. I am thankful that I was raised in a home that promoted hard work. My parents were great examples of hard working people. They taught me and my siblings the importance of working hard no matter the task.

If hard work was easy more people would be doing it. Many people look for the easy way out, the easy way to complete the job. Just work hard and do the best that you can, because God will bless hard work.
