Pathway Through Proverbs: Chapter 22

Chapter 22: A Good Name

“A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.” Proverbs 22:1

This verse is probably one of the more famous verses in the book of Proverbs. It makes you think about how people think about you. I want people to think good about me, but if you know me you also know that I am going to be real no matter what you think about me.

As a Christian, your first concern should be how others think about you when it comes to representing Christ. Do you have a good Christian name? When others hear your name, do they think that you are a person who loves and serves God? Or do they they think that you are a fake Christian, you live one way at home and one way at church. You should strive to bring honor and glory to Jesus Christ through your name.

When I think of having a good name, I think of having a good name to make my parents proud. I want my name too be a reflection of how my parents raised me. When my name is spoken, I want people to think of my parents in high regard. They raised me to love Christ and serve Him. They taught me to be faithful, to work hard and many other good qualities that I can trace back to them. I want to have a good name for my parent’s sake.

“A good name…” What do people think about you when they hear your name? Is it good or is it bad?

A good name is based on your actions. Good actions will help give you a good name!
