Earlier this week, I was challenged by a friend to read eleven chapters a day of the Bible. If I can accomplish this every day, I can read my Bible through by the end of the year. I joined in and I am four days into the challenge. It isn’t easy to read eleven chapters a day, you actually have to set aside time to read, and not just read but to remember something from what you just read. Below is something that stuck out to me the other day.
“Being In the Way”
Usually we hear this phrase and it means that someone or something is in the way of accomplishing a task. At work, people may get in the way of trying to finish the job. At the store, someone may be in the way of you trying to get a specific product. When you’re driving, someone is always in the way!
“And the man wondering at her held his peace, to wit whether the Lord had made his journey prosperous or not. And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the Lord led me to the house of my master’s brethren. Genesis 24:21,27
This is the story where Abraham sent his servant to go find a wife for his son Isaac. The servant before he started his journey had stopped and prayed that God would make his journey prosperous and to show him exactly which woman would be the wife for Isaac. To make a long story short, God blessed the servant and showed him the right lady for Isaac to wife.
What I want to point out is that the servant said that he was in the way and that is when the Lord led him to the right place. I have wondered what that way was, what exactly was the way he was in.
As a Christian, I want God to make my journey prosperous throughout life. I want God to bless me and my family. I want to be in the way. I thought of some ways that we as Christians need to be in for God to bless us and make our journey prosperous.
- Way of Prayer. The Bible says in I Thessalonians 5:17 to “Pray without ceasing.” We should continually be in a state of prayer. There is nothing wrong with constantly asking God for help and guidance through your day. If we are in the way of prayer and have a constant communication with God, He is more likely to bless us on a daily basis. Also praying daily and having a relationship with God will help keep you right with God and those around you.
- Way of Bible Reading. ” But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4 We have to be in the Word of God daily if we expect to have a strong Christian life. Too many Christians rely only on Sunday morning to make it in the Christian life. We need to have a daily walk with God. We need to eat from the Word daily. Be in the way of Bible reading and God will show you where to go and He will bless you.
- Way of Being a Witness. “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” Acts 1:8 Wherever we go, we need to be witnesses in the way. We shouldn’t keep the good news of the Gospel to ourselves, we need to share with those around us. God blesses witnessing. He brings joy to soul winner. He will make your way prosperous if you are in the way of being a witness.
- Way of Church Attendance. “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much more, as ye see the day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25 I believe that we should attend church faithfully. We should be involved, serving and worshipping God, in our local church. Yes, you can worship God in your house or wherever but I believe in attending the local church.
These are just of a few ways that we can be in the way and be blessed by God.
Do you have any other ways that would qualify for being in the way of God’s blessing? I would love to hear them.
