What Do Your Walls Look Like?

Have you ever stopped and thought about how often we use walls?

We use walls everyday! And we honestly don’t even realize it!

We use walls for protection, for privacy, for warmth, for decoration. We use walls at work, at home, at the store and literally every building you walk into.

Walls are everywhere! There are big walls and little walls. There are thick walls and thin walls. Walls come in all sizes!

Now stop and think about your house and the walls that make it up. Let’s just say you have a hole in one of the outside walls….I’m not talking about a door or a window…I’m talking about a actual hole that you can stick your arm through, your hand would be outside while you’re standing inside. My question is, how long would you leave this hole in your wall? We all know the answer to that question, not very long! We would get it fixed as soon as we could. We would cover it up with some plastic or plywood. We would do our best to conceal it.

Since we know we would take care of the walls of our physical life, what about our spiritual life? Would we care for the walls in our spiritual life like  we do in our physical life.

The walls of our spiritual life need to be strong to resist the storms of the world, to protect us from Satan. If we let a little hole in our spiritual wall take place and we don’t fix it, the world and Satan will keep tearing away at it until the whole wall is gone and we are living a worldly life with no resemblance of a Christian.

Here are a few thoughts on caring for the walls of your spiritual life.

  1. Having strong walls takes constant work. “So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the thereof: for the people had the mind to work.” Nehemiah 4:6 I know this passage is talking about the wall of Jerusalem and how they were rebuilding, but I believe just everything in the Bible can be made into a personal and practical lesson. The people had to work to build the wall. We have to work individually in our own lives to build and maintain the wall that protects us. The world and Satan will constantly attack us to try to tear the walls down. We have to remain just as constant in building and repairing and caring for our walls. We see that they built the wall with a sword in one hand and their work tool in the other. We have to be in our Bible daily since it is our sword and we must daily be doing the work of the Lord. If we live our life consumed with Christ, Satan will have a hard time tearing down our walls.
  2. You can’t build a strong wall with rubbish. “And Judah said, The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and there is much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall.”  Nehemiah 4:10 If you try to build your walls on rubbish, they will be weak and unstable. If you try to build your walls with rubbish, they will crumble and fall. Everything the world and the devil offers us, is rubbish. They try to make it look good and nice but it is just full of trash. Don’t use rubbish to protect yourself with!

Take care of your walls. Constantly be building them up! Repair them on a daily basis. Get it the Word of God to protect yourself on a daily basis.
