“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Of his own will begat he is with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.” James 1:17-18
A gift is something given to someone by someone else that doesn’t require any form of payment by the person receiving the gift.
We all like receiving gifts. Most of us like giving gifts. God blesses giving people. We should all try to have a giving heart and just help those around us.
No matter what we give to others, God has still given mankind the greatest gift ever.
“Every good gift…is from above…” We can take a look around us and look at all the things that God has blessed us with. In my own life, I have a wife that God has blessed me with. Our two little girls are gifts from the Father. Our house, our car, our clothes, our food, our needs supplied, those are all good gifts from the Father. Without God, I would have nothing because I truly believed He has given me everything. God is the giver of every good gift. Those good gifts, He gives you and I are those blessings in our daily lives. They are the needs that He fulfills on a daily basis. The good gifts from above are the peace He gives us in the storms of life. They are the comfort He gives in the hard times. Those gifts are the joy and happiness we have from Him. Look around at all the good gifts He has given you and just be thankful!
“Every perfect gift…cometh down from the Father of lights…” I found the phrasing of this verse interesting, there are good gifts and there are perfect gifts. I believe that God has given us two perfect gifts.
- The gift of salvation – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 God gave His only Son for our sin. He gave His perfect Son. Jesus Christ was the first perfect gift to mankind. Without the perfection of Jesus Christ, we would be lost, on our way to Hell. Thank God for His perfect Son as He gave us salvation!
- The gift of the Word of God – “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.” Psalms 19:7 God gave us His perfect word in the King James Bible. He gave us His perfect word so that we could live a blessed life. Don’t take for granted the only physical perfect gift that God gave us.
Take a moment today to thank God for all the gifts that He has given us, including salvation and the Word of God.
