“How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?”
Proverbs 6:9
Sleep is such a wonderful thing! The older I get, the more I enjoy it but the less time I have to sleep.
Sleep is good for our bodies as it recharges and refreshes us, getting us ready for the next day. A lack of sleep can be harmful to our bodies because we aren’t giving it enough time to heal and repair itself after a long day.
While we can have a lack of sleep, we can also have to much sleep. As too little sleep is harmful, too much sleep can also have damaging effects on your body and your health.
As we grow, we have to continually find a balance between too little and too much sleep.
The verse above asks, “How long wilt thou sleep?” This verse is talking about the sluggard and how he sleeps his day away. He is a lazy man, a man who does nothing but just lies around and sleeps.
If you are physically lazy like the sluggard in this verse, get up and go do something! Don’t waste your life away watching tv, eating Doritos, drinking Coke, and playing video games. Get up, go work, go play sports, go hike, go do something!
The point that I want to make though is this, How many of us are spiritual sluggards?
How long wilt thou sleep, O Christian, when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
Too many Christians are spiritually asleep! We have Christians who work hard in the secular field. We have Christians who are involved in all kinds of secular activities. But they are asleep spiritually. I am not saying that you can’t be involved in things outside of church but if you are more interested in doing those extracurricular activities instead of serving in some ministry, than you are probably asleep spiritually.
It is time for Christians to wake up! It is time for Christians to start working! It is time that we arise and start serving God!
Stop sleeping when there are souls to be reached!
Stop sleeping when there is a Gospel to be preached!
Wake up Christian!
When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?!
