I opened up my Bible app this morning and decided to read a Psalms. I need some encouragement and comfort in my life right now and I figured Psalms was a good place to start.
I chose Psalms, then I just hit a number and ended up in Psalms 51. Instead of encouragement and comfort, I ended up being convicted….but still encouraged that the Lord is still working on my heart.
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” (Psalms 51:10)
It states “Create in me….” not “create in him” or “create in her” or even “ create in them”….”a clean heart.” It’s a personal prayer to the Lord, for your own heart.
Too often, we focus on what others are doing. We focus on how far they have drifted away from God. We look at the wrong someone else has done instead of looking in our own lives to see how we have disobeyed and displeased God.
Then the verse goes on to say “and renew a right spirit within me.”
I’ll never have the right spirit with a dirty heart. I’ll never have the right spirit if I am living in and partaking in the filth of this world.
Our prayer today is that we personally ask the Lord to create a clean heart in us and renew a right spirit in us.
I was convicted today as I read Psalm 51. I have to stop looking at what others have done towards me and focus on the Lord and making sure I have a clean heart and a right spirit so that He can still use me.
