Identity Crisis

I love wearing hats!

Back in my single days, I would buy a new hat every couple of weeks.

I still wear hats, I rarely ever buy a new hat now.

When I buy hats, they usually represent something from Colorado. I love that I grew up in Colorado and I love representing Colorado.

My favorite football team is the Denver Broncos. Only makes sense, right? My go to, everyday hat is a Denver Broncos hat.

When I wear that hat, I identify myself as a fan of the Denver Broncos.

I have Broncos t-shirts that I wear from time to time and when I wear them, I am identifying myself as a Broncos fan.

I do not have any hats or t-shirts that represent any other football team. Why? Because I do not want to identify myself with those teams because I am not a fan of any of them.

I’m not going to wear a Broncos hat on Monday and then wear a Raiders hat on Tuesday! Wednesday, I’m not going to put on Chiefs hat. I’m not going to wear a Chargers t-shirt the rest of the week! If I did this and you saw me, you would be confused with what football team I like.

When people look at you, are they confused?

Do they wonder who you are identifying with?

Can the world tell that you are a Christian? Or do you look and act so much like them, that they are confused?

The Bible tells us in Romans 12:1-2, than we should not be conformed to this world but that we should be transformed. We should be different from the world. We should look different than the world. We should act different than the world. We should talk different than the world.

Whether you conform or transform, you are identifying yourself with the side you want to be on. The world’s side or the Lord’s side.

The Bible also tells us that we cannot serve two masters. If you are living like the world for six days a week and then put on your Christian hat on Sundays, it is easy to see who you are serving.

In the world today there is an identity crisis. Gender identity is a huge problem today. I have heard plenty of preaching on the LGTBQ crowd and how they want to identify as the opposite sex or as neither. Just like there is an identity crisis among them, there is an identity crisis among the Christians. There are many in our circles who are having a hard time trying to figure out whether to identify with the world or with Christ.

It comes down to this, you and you alone have to choose whether you want to identify with Christ or with the world. No one else can make that choice for you.

“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15

Joshua was telling the children of Israel that it was time for them to make a choice. They had to decide to either serve the Lord or serve the gods of this world. In Joshua 24, we see the children of Israel answer Joshua three times that they would serve the Lord. Johsua’s response to their answer was that they needed to put away the gods of this world and turn from them. We never see them totally get rid of the gods of the world and by Judges they had fallen from serving the Lord to serving these gods that they decided to keep. The same thing goes for the Christian, we get saved and want to serve the Lord but we hold onto all the things of the world. If you don’t let them go, sooner or later they will catch up with you again.

Your walk talks louder than your talk, talks. Don’t tell me that you are choosing to live for God when Monday through Saturday you are listening to the world’s music, talking like the world, dressing like the world, going to the places of the world and doing the things of the world. Don’t tell me that you are choosing to serve God when the only day you look and act like a Christian is on Sunday.

It is time you identify yourself with Christ. It is time you choose to serve Christ. I am not talking about getting saved, I am talking to those who are professing to be saved already, to those who claim to be Christians, but are identifying with the world through their dress, music, speech and actions.

Ask yourself today this question, “Who am I identifying with? Jesus Christ or the world?”

Choose today to serve God and live for God. Choose today that you will be what a Christian should be everyday of the week and not just on Sundays. Choose today to walk with God and have a personal relationship with Him. ‘

The choice is yours, what will you choose?

Being A Confident Christian

“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:”

Philippians 1:6

Last night, my wife and I were talking about the subject of being confident and what it means when it comes to serving the Lord. Then today, this verse shows up as the verse of the day and I got to thinking some more about the subject of being confident.

God has call each one of us to a good work. He has something that He wants each one of us to fulfill and accomplish in our lives. Paul is telling us that if we have been called, we can be confident in knowing that God will help us carry out that work.

I have a few areas that I believe that we should be confident in, and have confidence in Christ that He will help us in these areas.

The first is Salvation. I am confident in Christ that He will save me if I put my faith and trust in Him. When I accepted Christ as my Saviour, I was unsure about His power and ability to save me. I had complete and total confidence in His Word that what He said He would do, He would do! We can have confidence in salvation through Jesus Christ!

Next we can have confidence in our Soul winning. We can have confidence in telling others about the saving power of Jesus Christ! It worked for us, why won’t it work for someone else. Telling other people about Jesus Christ and how He alone can save them is the number responsibility of every single Christian! There is no need to be scared or intimidated by the world, being a witness is a good work, and we are to be confident in what we are called to do!

We can have confidence in our Service. I like to think that being a soul winner and being a servant are two different aspects of the Christian life, yet we are called to do both. If God has called you to serve in some area of church, and I believe there is a place for everyone, you can have confidence that God will help you in that service, in that good work. Too many Christians sit idly by for whatever reasons, but I think one of the big reasons is they lack confidence. We have to realize that whatever God has called us to do, He has equipped us to perform that good work, and we can find confidence in Him.

Then lastly, our Standards are something we can take confidence in. I look around and I see a lot of Christians giving in to worldly fashion and worldly living. They have lost confidence in the standards that God has given to us in His Word. We are called to look different, be different, act different and talk different than the worldly crowd. When I see Christians that are dropping their standards, I see people that have lost confidence in God and what He can do if they live according to His Word. Be peculiar, be confident in being different!

Whoever you are, wherever you are, whatever you are doing, you can find confidence in Christ to fulfill His will for your life!

Withstand In The Evil Day

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”

Ephesians 6:10-13

It is time for Christians to wake up and realize we are living in an evil day! We are living in a time when God is being thrown out of the courthouse, the schoolhouse, the family’s house and even the church house! We are living in a day when sin is so prevalent it is normal and accepted! We are living in an evil day where righteousness is frowned upon and wickedness is uplifted!

What happened to our will, our desire, our passion to stand and fight! Do you realize that your life and your child’s life is at stake here? Satan is doing everything he can to destroy Christianity and things of Christ, and we are sitting here allowing him to!

It is time we realize that we are in the fight of our lives! It is time that we stand up for what is right! Stand against what is wrong! Stop letting the world and the devil control what we do and say!

A few weeks ago, I wrote about doubling down on our Christianity. About becoming more zealous and fervent for what is right! The worldly crowd is getting louder and louder while we get quieter and quieter. I was thinking about this, are they getting louder because more and more ‘Christians’ are joining them? Just a thought…

I want to take one phrase from the verses above, “…that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day,…” Withstand means to stand up against:oppose with firm determination, to resist successfully; to be proof against: resist the effect of; to stop or obstruct the course of. We need to withstand in the evil day. We need to oppose, we need to resist, we need to stop and obstruct wickedness.

The preparation to withstand. To be able to withstand, we have to be prepared. How do we prepare? By putting on the armour of God. We see that God gives us the armour to put on in the following verses. This armour protects everything we need from head to foot. If we forget even one item, we are at risk of being defeated by Satan. He starts with the girdle of truth, that is why it is important to be honest in everything we say and do! He then goes to the breastplate of righteousness. The piece that covers your heart. We need to have a righteous and clean heart before God. The we are told to cover our feet with the gospel of peace, be a soul winner, be a witness for Christ. Then we are to take the shield of faith, realizing that we are not in this fight alone. Then the helmet of salvation. It doesn’t matter if you know everything about Christianity but don’t know the Christ that saves you. Without salvation, you will never be able to fight Satan like you should. Then we are to ourselves with the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God. It is important to read, study, meditate and memorize the Bible as it is our only weapon of attack. Be prepared everyday to withstand the wiles of the devil, to be able to withstand Satan’s attack!

The performance of withstanding. When should we withstand? Easy, whenever wrong presents itself. We live in such a day when we are worried about who we will offend. Have we thought about how much we are offending God when we give into the world and into the ways of Satan. We have too many Christians sitting on the sidelines watching the fight, we need more Christians to stand up for Christ and get in the fight. The Christian life isn’t no tea party, it is a battle, it is a fight! Let’s not give into the Satan and his wicked ways! Let’s learn to say no! Let’s learn to turn from wickedness! Let’s learn to be bold about our faith and what is right according to the Bible. Whether you are standing alone or with a crowd, as long as you are standing for right, continue to stand!

The progression of withstanding. I was thinking about when would be the time to stop standing, and there is no time to stop standing. When we think we can stand no more, stand. When we think the fight is won, stand. Too often, we quit too soon, we give up, we stop…we have to keep pressing forward and continue fighting! We have to continue to progress in our fight, if we stop, we will regress. It is going to be tough. It is going to be hard, but that is when we need to rely on God to carry us through! We cannot fight the battle against Satan and the wickedness of this world without Christ! We need to progress and go forward in our walk with God, in our service for Christ! We need to withstand no matter what!

Be one who withstands in the evil day! Don’t give in or give up!
