Pathway Through Proverbs

This month of June, I am challenging myself to post everyday about something from Proverbs.

Proverbs has 31 chapters in it, one for each day. A chapter a day will help keep you closer to God. It will help you in the battle against Satan. A chapter from Proverbs each day will increase your wisdom and understanding.

Chapter 1: My Son

One of my favorite things about Proverbs is that it becomes personal right at the beginning.

In verse 8, 10, and 15 they all start with the words ‘my son.’ As a son, I feel like it is talking right to me. To all the sons and daughters out there, the book of Proverbs is written for you. We can all learn from these writings.

“My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:” Proverbs 1:8  What I see from this verse is that we need to LISTEN TO KNOWLEDGE. Listen to your father and mother, listen to those that are on authority, listen to wise people. You don’t know everything, and you will never know everything so learn to listen to others so that you can know how to make it in life.

“My son, of sinners entice thee, consent thou not.” Proverbs 1:10 This verse teaches us that we should LEARN TO SAY NO. It’s one of the first words a little kid learns how to say but as they grow older they forget how to say it. When sin is presented and you are tempted say no. The more you say yes the harder it will be to say no to sin.

“My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:” Proverbs 1:15 This verse is talking about the sinners from verse 10. Here we see that we shouldn’t LINGER IN THEIR STEPS. What’s that supposed to mean, you ask? Well we shouldn’t hang out with them and things like that. We need to live a godly, separated life and it is hard to do that when you are on the path of the wicked.

Solomon wanted his son to learn some things that God had given him. Solomon was the wisest man in history, I’m sure that we, just like his son, can learn from him also.
