I have been thinking a lot about what I posted the other day on Loving Like God. I believe every Christian should strive to love like God.
The majority of our love toward another is based solely on what that person can do for us. That is the wrong thing to base love on. I am glad God didn’t base His love for us on what we could do for Him, if that was the case, we would be in a hopeless mess. God loves us not based on what we can do but based on what He can do. He loves us because He knows He can save us. He loves us because He knows He can care for us. He loves us because He knows He can bless us. If we truly learned to love like God, our whole definition of love would change.
I love my two little girls with all my heart. Along with my wife, they are my world, my everything. Trust me, I don’t love my girls based on what they can do for me or what they can give to me. I love them based on what I can do for them. I love them because I can care and provide for them. I don’t expect anything from them in return, I don’t expect them to repay me, I love them because they are my children.
We need to love others based on what we can do for them, based on how we can serve them. The end of Galatians 5:13 says “…but by love serve one another.” God wants us to serve one another with love. If we do that, we won’t be doing it expecting something in return for our service.
Do you want to love like God? Well one way to do that is to serve others with love.
Love someone based off of what you can do for them and not what they can do for you.
