We attend Bethel Baptist Church in Walls, MS. I have been going there since I moved out here from Colorado in January 2013. It is a great church! I love the old-fashioned singing and preaching! We still use a song book to sing from. We still use a piano. We still take our King James Bible to church and read from it. We still hear sermons from the King James Bible! Everything we do at church is focused around God and His Word!
This Sunday we are celebrating the church’s 56th anniversary! You don’t hear of many churches lasting long, let alone 56 years! This is only accomplished by a group of people who were and are willing to be faithful to God, no matter what comes their way. Throughout the years, you can see where God has blessed the church and its members because of their faithfulness.
As I was sitting in church the other day, I started to think about the importance of church and how church can help you no matter where you are at in life. It doesn’t matter what your social standing is or even where you live. It doesn’t matter how rich or how poor you are. It doesn’t matter who you are, you need church.
“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25
Here are three quick thoughts about why we should attend church.
First, church is a place to RESCUED. No, I am not talking about going to church as part of salvation, I am stating that attending church is a good place to hear the Gospel preached and have the opportunity to be saved. It is a blessing to be part of a church that believes in still going soul winning, that believes in still telling people about Jesus. It is evident that preaching the Gospel is the theme as every service the plan of salvation is presented in some way. So attending church is good if you are a lost person, it will give you a chance to be rescued, to hear the Gospel and to accept Christ as your Saviour.
Secondly, church is a place to be REVIVED. If it has been a long time since you have felt the hand of God move in your life, well church is a good place to start. At church, God may speak to you and give you that spark to get going and start serving again!
Third, church is a place to be REFRESHED. The fellowship and friendship of like believers you have at the church is always refreshing. It is a blessing to get away from the things of the world and be around the things of God. A church should be a haven of rest from the world, a place of peace and comfort, a place to give you energy to make it through the week.
No matter where you are this week, make plans to be in church on Sunday! If you live in Deosto County, MS, make plans to be at Bethel Baptist Church this Sunday!
