I was driving home from a youth activity the other night and I hit a deer!
Man, it was a huge bummer! Damaged the front end of the car and definitely messed up the radiator. I decided not to drive it any further just in case driving it would cause any more damage to the engine.
As I sat there in that deserted parking lot waiting for my friend to pick me up, I started thinking…
I thought about the issues of not having a car for a few days….because trying to find rides for your family isn’t easy, especially with two car seats!
I thought about how this accident would probably raise my insurance premiums, not cool!
I thought about the hassle of dealing with my insurance company to get the car fixed.
I thought about, why me? Why did I have to be the one to hit a deer?!
I thought about that message I heard last Sunday night, Through the Fire. I thought about sometimes God puts us in situations, in trials, in troubles, just to see how we react.
I remembered the verse from Isaiah 24:15 “Wherefore glorify ye the Lord in the fires, even the name of the Lord God of Israel in the isles of the sea.”
I decided to find some things to glorify the Lord in, to thank God for, instead of all the bad things about hitting a deer and damaging my car.
I am thankful that no one got injured, including myself. My family wasn’t with me, so they are all alright. I wasn’t driving for Lyft, so I didn’t have any passengers with me. I kept control of the car, didn’t swerve into any other cars. So I am thankful for God’s safety.
I am thankful that God let me switch insurances before I hit a deer! Just a month ago I switched insurances, literally almost to the exact day. I went from $1,000 deductible to $500 deductible! I also went from no rental car reimbursement to $40 a day for a rental car! I’m thankful that I was able to get better insurance before I had any accident!
I am thankful for the good friends that my family has. One friend picked me up and went out of his way to drop me off at my house. A couple other friends worked it out so that we could use their extra vehicle until we were able to pick up a rental car, even though it made their Sunday a little more difficult. I am extremely thankful for the great friends that God has given to my family especially when we have no family that lives close to us.
I didn’t realize that God would throw me into the fire so soon after I heard that amazing message, but I believe He wanted to test me to see how my heart and attitude are. Yes, I know that its not a terminal health issue or anything super crazy but in my life, at this moment, it is a fire. I know that God will see me through and so far He has taken care of us!
