I have been wanting to do another series for a while now and I have been thinking a lot about what to do. I decided that since this website is dedicated to being counted faithful in the ministry, I can do a series on the people that the Bible says were faithful.
Hebrews 11 is known as the “Hall of Faith” chapter. It is a list of some of the greatest people in the Bible with their accomplishments that set them apart. We recognize people and their achievements by inducting them into different Halls of Fame in their industries. God created the first Hall of Fame by recognizing these people, these servants of God, for their great faith and their achievements.
The people found in this “Hall of Faith” cover many aspects of life. We see old men and young men. We see people who lived holy, righteous lives along with those who lived a life of sin. One of things that I enjoy about this chapter is knowing that no matter who you are or what you have done, God still can and He still wants to use you.
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” Hebrews 11:1-3
Faith: belief and trust in and loyalty to God, belief in the traditional doctrines of a religion; something that is believed especially with strong conviction, especially a system of religious beliefs.
Faith here is this chapter is the belief in God and His Word. We can’t see faith, it isn’t a physical, tangible object that we can touch and hold. It is found in each person, and each person decides who and what to exercise their faith in. Some put their faith and trust into people, some put their faith and trust in things, some in money and there are those few that put their faith and trust in God.
So as we journey through the “Hall of Faith,” let’s remember that there was nothing special about these men and women found in this chapter. They were normal people like you and I who exercised their faith in a great way. And because they were able to exercise their faith in a great way, God used them mightily!
What set these normal people apart from other normal people was their great faith in a great God.
You and I have the opportunity to do something great for God! We really do! But our lack of faith slows us down and holds us back from reaching our true potential for Christ!
As we journey through this “Hall of Faith,” I hope that we can learn some different characteristic traits from these men and women that will allow us to increase our faith in God.
