If you follow my Instagram, you would have seen that the verse of the day (which I add to my insta-stories) was Galatians 5:1, “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”
Today’s quote of the day was on temptation. I mentioned that you will be tempted, but just because you are tempted doesn’t mean that you have to fall into that temptation and sin.
I heard a news story today talking about Mac Miller, the musician who died this past weekend from a drug overdose. In this story, they had another musician that was talking about how the abuse of drugs is a problem in Hollywood. We are starting to hear more and more stories of famous people having drug overdoses. That is just the tip of the iceberg of the drug problem in our country and our world today, you only hear of the famous people…never the average people who daily struggle with this problem.
Drugs are a temptation that many struggle with daily. They are entangled in that yoke of bondage. Drugs aren’t the only addiction that many people struggle with. Pornography. Alcohol. Gambling. And many more. All these addictions started as temptations and now are the yoke of bondage for these people.
I have heard many people who have been able to overcome addiction say that the way they overcame their addiction was through the power of Jesus Christ. When we realize that Jesus Christ gives up liberty and freedom through Him, we can overcome anything that holds us down and holds us back.
Galatians 5:1 is written to the saved, to the child of God that has overcome addiction and that yoke of bondage. The Bible is telling us that we need to stand fast, be strong in Christ and we can have freedom in our life.
We don’t need more programs, more support groups, more meds, more rehabs to overcome addiction…we need more Jesus!! If you are struggling with an addiction in your life, find Bible verses to memorize to fight the addiction. Pray for strength to say no. Ask others to pray for you. Surround yourself with God’s people. Find ways to serve Christ. Be a witness to others.
“…be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”
