Where Are You Looking?

“And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

Luke 9:62

There is so much truth packed into this little verse. I was thinking about this verse last night and what it means to our life both eternally and earthly.

I remember my youth pastor giving an illustration that defined this verse. He worked for a harvesting crew and operated a combine. He said that as he drove that combine, he would pick a point in the distance and drive straight for it, he wouldn’t take his eyes off of it. He said that you could notice when someone took their eyes off of the point they were heading towards, there would be a little swerve in the field…which would then affect the rest of the harvesting.

When you are driving down the road, if you look off to side to see what is happening, you will eventually head that direction. Our direction is determined by where we are looking, what we have our eyes focused on.

In life, whatever your goal is, focus on that goal. Don’t get sidetracked by the problems that arise. Keep focusing on your goal until you attain it. If you don’t have a goal, well it is time for you to get one. Goal-oriented people are usually the people that rise above the rest and are successful.

“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God”

Hebrews 12:2

Look to Jesus. That is all that needs to be said when it comes to who we are looking at in life. If we look to Jesus for all our answers and solutions..If we look to Jesus for all our help in times of need…If we look to Jesus for guidance and direction, than we will end up in the right place in our lives.

We are in a race. Christ is the finisher of our faith. Why should we look anywhere but to Him?

Don’t let Satan use the things of this world to distract you and get you off of the track that you are on. Don’t let your problems take your eye off of Christ. Whatever you go through, remember Christ is the one who will be there for you, so look to Him!
