“By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Hebrews 11:5-6

It has been a while since I have worked on my “Hall of Faith” series, so today, I want to look at Enoch.

When we think of Enoch, we think of a man who walked with God. We think of a man that walked with God so much, and he was so close to God, that God took him. God took Enoch of the earth to be with Him, in His presence.

Can you imagine how great Enoch’s relationship with God was? When I think of the greatest Christian I know, I can’t imagine them being so close to God that they would be gone in an instant like Enoch was. Enoch had a friendship, a relationship with God that has not been matched throughout history.

When I look at these two verses from Hebrews, there are two different things that stand out to me.

We know Enoch walked with God. “And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.” Genesis 5:24 What I find interesting about the verses in Hebrews, about the verses that describes Enoch’s place in the Hall of Faith, is that they don’t mention anything about a walk with God. Verse 5, does say that his testimony was ‘that he pleased God.’

What I take from this, is that to please God, you must walk with God. You cannot have a life pleasing unto God without a walk with Him. Enoch wasn’t walking with God to just walk with Him, he knew that walking with God was a way to please God and make God happy with Him.

The next thing I see in these verse is, ‘without faith it is impossible to please God.’ To please God, you have to have faith. To walk with God, you have to walk with and by faith. It takes faith to develop a relationship with someone you can’t see, someone who doesn’t audibly talk to you. You can’t walk with God if you have no faith in God. The ones who have no faith in God are the ones who have no relationship, no walk with God and they are the ones who are not pleasing God.

So Christian, do you want to please God? Then increase your faith and build your walk with Him.
