Don’t Just Stand Up, STAND OUT

“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,”

I have heard many times that we should stand up if we are Christians!

Stand up and fight for the faith!

Stand up and be proud of who you are as a Christian!

I have heard that life is a battle and we must stand and fight for what’s right and holy!

I totally agree with all the above and that we need to stand up for our faith, but I think it is time that we go back to standing a different way and that is STAND OUT!

What do I mean by standing out?? Well I believe that we should stand out and be different from the world. People should look at us and say, “there is something different about that person.” “That person has something that I don’t have.”

As time moves on, it is getting harder and harder to tell who is a Christian and who isn’t…even in our churches.

God has called us to come out from among them, meaning the world. He has called us to be separated from the world. God has told us to touch not the unclean thing of the world, to not partake in worldly activities.

God has also called us to be a peculiar people. That word ‘peculiar’ means strange or odd, unusual. If we live our lives according to the Word of God, we are strange people, we are odd people and we do things that may seem unusual to those around us.

STAND OUT IN YOUR DOINGS

What do I mean by this? The difference between a worldly person and a servant of Christ should be this… Most worldly people are concerned with themselves, how much money they can make, how high they can climb the corporate ladder, and how they can gain more assets. There is nothing wrong with these things, but as a Christian, they shouldn’t be our main goal. Our goal should be serving Christ, by serving others. Serving Christ, by witnessing to others. Our goal should be to have a close relationship with God.

Our duties should be centered around the Saviour and not around self. Too many Christians are focused on what they can do for themselves, instead of what they can do for Christ. Which is why, no one can tell the difference between you and the world. Your focus and your desire and your goals are exactly like that of the lost person who is trying to build his career. I promise you that if you focus on doing more for Christ, He will bless your career.

STAND OUT IN YOUR DRESS

This is a touchy subject that I don’t hear a lot about anymore in churches…but it is still in the Bible. Our dress should be different than that of the world. We should try to dress modest at all times, especially in public. It is sad when you can walk into a church and people are dressed like they are at the club or at Walmart. What happened to looking presentable for Christ? What happened to wearing your best on Sundays?

Neither man nor woman should wear tight fitting apparel that makes the opposite sex lust after you.

The Bible still says “The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.” Deuteronomy 22:5 What I find interesting about this verse is the order that God puts it in. He talks about the woman wearing man’s garments before He talks about men wearing women’s garments. As a society, we have become acceptable of woman wearing men’s garments, so why should we even be surprised that we are living in a time where men wearing women’s garments is accepted. We have allowed it to get this far!

We aren’t called to fit into the world, we called to come out and be separate! This area of dressing according to the Bible is an area that is becoming less and less talked about and you can’t tell a difference between Christians and non-Christians in dress anymore.

Don’t conform to this world! Stand out! Be a Christian! Be different!!
