Christianity Without Charity

“And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.”

I Corinthians 13:2

The verse of the day on my Bible app fell right in line with my last podcast. On the podcast and yesterday’s blog, I talked about loving the sinner and hating sin.

I saw this verse this morning and realized that without charity, Christianity is nothing. The simplest definition that I enjoy of charity is this, charity is love in action. It is one thing to say that you love someone, it is another thing to show that you love someone by your actions to them and for them.

You can be of the wisest, smartest people in the world. You can be a well-renowned Bible scholar. You can be a great speaker. You can wow people with your knowledge and keep them on the edge of their seat with your eloquence. You can be a great motivator and get people excited. You can be all this and more…

But without charity, you are nothing!

Christianity without charity is not Christianity. We saw God’s charity when He sent Christ for our sins. That was God’s love in action.

So what makes us think that we can do Christianity without charity? What makes us think that we can be a godly Christian, a servant, if we have no charity in our lives?

Faith is good. We have discussed it multiple times throughout the blog. We need faith in our lives. We have to have faith in Christ to save us. We have to have faith in Christ to supply our needs. Our faith in Christ can do many things, but it is not all we should have in our Christianity.

Faith causes you to have deeds to point at.

Charity causes you to make a difference in people.

When take a look at life, what is going to matter? The great church we built or the lives we helped? Is building our bank accounts worth more than giving and acting on our love towards others?

Ask yourself today, how is my Christianity? Is it full of just faith without charity? Or do I have charity in my life? Do I really love others like Christ loves me?

Without charity, you are and will be nothing.
