Love The Sinner, Hate The Sin

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

John 3:16

This verse is probably one of the most famous, if the not the most famous, verse in the Bible. There is so much truth and doctrine found in this one verse.

I want to put something out from this verse, that we as Christians need to remember. I think that sometimes Christians forget who they are and who they were before they got saved and start acting like a ‘little g’ god.

Christians are to be Christ-like. We should live in such a way that shows those around us that we are Christians. Our speech and our actions should also point people to Christ.

The very first part of this verse says, “For God so loved the world…” God loves the sinner, no matter the sin. God hates sin, they are many verses in the Bible that talk about that, but on the flip-side He loves the sinner.

We cannot hate the sinner more than we hate sin. Because when we do, we go against God.

Get mad at sin!

Preach against sin!

Warn others about the dangers of sin!

But NEVER, NEVER hate the sinner more than you hate the sin!

You can hate the sin, yet still love the sinner! You can hate the sin, yet still want that sinner to accept Christ as their Saviour…just like you did!

You are a sinner, yet someone loved you enough to share the Gospel with you so that you can accept Christ.

You can be godly without hating the sinner. You can be godly without loving the sin. DON’T mix the two up!
