Something I have been thinking a lot about and trying to implement more in my life is prayer.
An important part of the Christian life is prayer. Prayer is how we communicate with God. Prayer is us doing our part in having a relationship with Christ!
As I think how I can improve in my own prayer life, I think of 3 different things I can become better in, 3 different attributes of prayer I can grow in. I understand that there are more than just these 3, but this is a start for myself and for you if you want to grow in your prayer life.
Pray Attentively
As I was thinking how I could increase my prayer life and how I could grow in this area, my first thought was too give more attention to the matter. Since prayer is part of our relationship with Christ, I should give it my full attention when I am praying or talking to Christ.
Just like in an earthly relationship, lack of attention will drive a wedge in it. If I don’t give attention to my wife or children, there will become a wedge driven in between us, we I’ll grow apart. I need to give attention to them to keep that relationship strong and help it to continue to grow.
In my spiritual relationship with Christ, I need to give my full attention to Him every chance I can. When I talk to Him or pray, I need to pray attentively as He is the only One who matters at that moment. I need to talk to Him and focus on Him and give Him my undivided attention when it comes to this part of my relationship.
Pray Adamantly
To be honest, I keeping with the alliteration, but after I explain why I chose ‘adamantly’ you will understand why it is an attribute we should have in our prayer life.
The word adamant means unshakable or insistent especially in maintaining a position or opinion.
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:”
Matthew 7:7 KJV
I read this verse and I think about how adamant Jesus wants us to be in our prayer life! He wants us to ask, He wants us to seek, He wants us to knock! If we do each of these things, He will give, He will help you find, and He will open the doors. Be adamant in your prayer life! Be unshakable and insistent in your prayer life!
Pray Always
“Pray without ceasing.” I Thessalonians 5:17
This is a common verse yet many fail at obeying the simplicity of the command.
It does not mean we have to be on our knees in our prayer closet 24/7, but it does mean that we should be in the attitude of prayer 24/7.
If we live our life in an attitude of prayer, we will see our relationship with God grow stronger on a daily basis.
