Focus Forward

Change your focus!

You will never get where you want to go because you never focus on where you need to go.

Focus Forward

I was out working today and I saw this little saying on an elementary school sign. I saw this statement and immediately thought of Philippians 3:13

“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,”

Paul in Philippians was basically telling us that we need to ‘Focus Forward.’

Many times in the Christian life, we are too busy focusing on where we have been and what we have done. We are focused on the past, whether it is good or bad. I see and hear all the time, ‘we DID this’ or ‘we ACCOMPLISHED that’ or ‘we WENT there.’ It is time we change our way of thinking, it is time we change our focus.

It is time that we start to ‘Focus Forward.’

It is still early enough in the year to change your focus for the year. Stop looking at what you did last year and start focusing on what you are going to do this year.

We never get anywhere in life because we are always focused on the past. Paul tells us to forget about those things which are behind. Move on from them. Stop dwelling on the past. You will never go anywhere if you are always looking backwards.

I watched a clip from a successful businessman/motivational speaker and one of his points was ‘change your ask.’ His idea behind this, is if you always ask for the same thing, you will always get the same thing. If you change your ask, you will eventually get something different. Yes, you may be criticized and laughed at, but when you set goals and you have a desire to do something great, that will happen.

Change your focus!

Change what you are looking at!

In my spiritual life, it is time that I stop looking at what I used to do for Christ and start looking at what I can do for Christ. I need to change my focus and focus forward in my spiritual life.

What keeps us from focusing forward?

Our past keeps us looking backwards. FORGET ABOUT YOUR PAST! You cannot change it. You cannot do anything different! FORGET ABOUT IT! Paul had to learn this lesson. He murdered Christians! He killed people who believed in Jesus Christ for a living! Yet, Paul became one of the greatest Christians, one of the greatest servants of Christ, that has ever walked on the face of the earth! Why? How? What did he do different? HE FORGOT ABOUT HIS PAST! No matter how bad you were, no matter how lazy you were no matter where you are from, you can still do something great! If you forget about your past.

Distractions keep us looking sidewards. Whether they are good or bad, we all have distractions in life that will keep us from looking forward. We may be distracted by what someone else is doing…or not doing. We may be too worried about the world and the direction it’s going. We need to be focused on our own life and make sure we are going in the right direction.

Change your focus! Focus Forward!

Do something great in 2020!

Where’s Your Focus

“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12:1-2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

So I am getting all my 2020 blogs out of my head. This year will have a lot of eyesight and vision references. But as a Christian, it is important that our eyes and our vision are on the right things!

Our focus as a Christian should be on Jesus Christ. He is the author and finisher of our faith. He is the beginning and the end of everything we know! Christ was here long before we were and He will still be long after us!

As we get ready to go through the year 2020, I want you to ask yourself, ‘Where is my focus at?’

This is a serious question to ask ourselves. Our feet will eventually follow our focus.

It is like driving, when you take your focus off of the road for an extended period of time, you start to drive towards wherever you are looking. You will naturally follow your focus.

You may think you are walking straight down the path of life, but if your focus isn’t wholly on the things of God, you will eventually end up of the path that God wants you on!

Your focus in the Christian life needs to be on Jesus Christ! “Looking unto Jesus…”

The Bible tells us to look unto Jesus! He should be where our gaze is fixed! He should be our focus in life!

Why should we focus on Jesus Christ?

Because He saved us! The first reason we should focus on Jesus Christ is because He provided us a way to Heaven, a way to escape Hell. Jesus gave Himself for us so that we can have salvation. If you are a saved child of Jesus Christ, your focus in life should be on Him. Christ is the beginning and ending of our faith and He is everything in between. Focus on Christ because of His gift of salvation.

Because of what He has given us! If you take a minute to look at your life and see everything that God has given you, you would have no reason but to focus on Him. Everything we are, everything we have is from Jesus Christ. Stop focusing on yourself and your problems and look at the blessings you have been given in life. One of the problems with Christians today is we get our focus off of Christ because we are looking at the things we don’t have instead of the things we do have.

Because of what He has in store for us! Do you realize that God knows what is ahead in your life? Too often, we take matters into our own hands and we end up with far less in life because we didn’t trust God to take us to where He wanted us. If we take our focus off of Christ, we will end up off the path He has for us.

Where is your focus in 2020?

Is it on Christ?

Is it on yourself and your problems and the things you want?

“Looking unto Jesus…”

Rise With Christ

It has been a few days since I last posted. I have been busy family, church and work and then trying to find some sleep in between all those things. We had a Preacher’s Conference last Monday and Tuesday at church and my cup was filled! I am thankful that I go to a church that still holds true to the King James Bible, still practices separation from the world, hasn’t gone contemporary and if anything has made a stronger stand for the things of God.

Anyways, I noticed a truth this past week in Sunday School from Colossians 3:1. “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.”

I want to take that first phrase from the verse and use it today to motivate and encourage us to have a better daily walk with God. It says, “If ye then be risen with Christ…” Every morning we rise out of bed to start our day, do we rise up with Christ on our mind or with the daily tasks we have ahead.

God is a God of order. You see that here in this verse. He says if you rise with Christ, then you will seek the things above, and in verse two you see that God tells us to set our affection on things above. You will never seek the things of Christ or want to set your affection on the things of Christ if you never start your day with Christ, if you never Rise with Christ!

No matter what time you start your day, you can rise with Christ.

How can you start your day with Christ? How do you rise with Christ?

First, wake up and thank Him for another day. Don’t start your day thinking about your problems and everything you got going on, thank God that you have another to live and serve Him.

Then you can start thanking Him for things He has blessed you with. You don’t have to spend an hour thanking God for everything, but spend a couple minutes just thinking about what God has given you and thanking Him for it.

After you finish thanking God, you should take and put on the whole armour of God as found in Ephesians 6. We need the armour of God for protection throughout the day. We will face the world, the flesh and the devil throughout the day and we need to be equipped in our spiritual warfare.

Lastly, spend a few minutes in God’s Word before you do anything else. You can read a chapter of Proverbs or a few Psalms or whatever you want, but spend time reading God’s instruction manual on life before you do anything else.

We have too many Christians, myself included, who do not rise with Christ everyday. These Christians then don’t seek after the things of Christ or set their affection on the things of Christ. These Christians fall into the worldly trap of money and popularity and forget what their real goals and focus and should be.

Rise with Christ every day and your affections and the things you seek after will change.
