The past few weeks, my pastor has been bringing some amazing messages on salvation! From how to be saved, all the way to being saved, many topics dealing with salvation have been covered!
As I sit there and listen to the preaching, I think back to that Tuesday night in November of 2016. I can remember where I was and the feeling of God working on my heart as I knew I needed to be saved. I knew I was lost. I knew that if I died that night I would go straight to Hell. I knew without a doubt I was not saved.
As I sat and talked to my friend, asking him what I needed to do, he simply said “you already know what you need to do, just do it.”
You see, I was born into a Christian family. I remember going to church from a young g age. I went to a Christian school. I attended more conferences than I can remember. I even remember the first time I took someone through the plan of salvation and showed them how they can accept Christ as their own personal Saviour.
I remembered the first time I made a profession of faith. I even remember the second time I made a profession of faith. But I also knew both of those moments were built on situationist experiences and not Holy Spirit conviction. Those moments were head knowledge and definitely not a heart knowledge.
I knew in my heart that I was a lost sinner on my way to Hell. I knew that I was without Christ. I sat in that garage on a cool November night scared to go any farther in life without Christ as my Saviour. When my friend looked at me and said “you already know what to do” I knew that he meant I had to make the choice that night of making Christ my personal Saviour.
I remember that he walked out of that garage and left me sitting there to talk to God that night. I sat there and I thought of Romans 3:10 and Romans 3:23 and how that I was a sinner. I thought of Romans 6:23 and how that my penalty for sin was death in Hell, but how Christ paid that penalty for me and I just had to accept that gift. I thought of John 3:16, the amazing verse of God’s love and Christ’s sacrifice so that a lost and dying soul like mine could have eternal life in Heaven. I thought of Romans 10:9-13 and how it all came down to being a personal choice to accept Christ as my Saviour. I remember sitting their and talking to God, asking for forgiveness of sin and accepting Christ as my Saviour. I remember the feeling of relief and joy that came over me in knowing that I had made Christ mine, I had finally accepted that gift of salvation!
I had known for so long how to act like and be a Christian. I had known for so long how to serve Christ. But I had know for awhile that I was empty on the inside and I needed Christ.
It doesn’t matter your background, your upbringing or what you know. At some point, you will have to make a personal decision about the gift of Jesus Christ. Have you accepted Christ as your Saviour? Have you accepted that free gift of salvation? It’s a personal decision that no one else can make, it is between you and Jesus Christ. If you haven’t, today is the day of salvation.
Below is a simple plan of salvation…
1. We have to recognize our condition. Our condition is that we are all sinners. “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 All the good we do will never be good enough to reach Heaven for the simple fact we are sinners by nature. No matter how much good, or how hard you try you will still fall short.
2. We have to realize there is a penalty for sin. The penalty for sin is death in Hell. “For the wages of sin is death…” Romans 6:23a There is a price for sin and that price is death in Hell. So we as a sinner deserve to pay for our sin by death in Hell. So far it has been all bad news, well continue reading!
3. Believe that Christ died for you. Jesus Christ was the perfect Son of God sent to die on the cross for all of man’s sins. He came to pay that price for you and for me so that we wouldn’t have to go to Hell. “But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 Christ paid that price of sin when He died on the cross. He didn’t just die He shed His blood to cover our sins. The best part is that Christ didn’t stay dead, He rose again after three days and now He is sitting on the right hand of God waiting to call His children, those who have accepted Him as Saviour, home to Heaven one day.
4. Trust in Christ alone as your Saviour. There is no good work, act or deed that can save you. There is no family member or friend that can save you. The only person who can save you is Jesus Christ. “…but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23b “For whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13 The greatest gift you can receive is that of eternal life through Jesus Christ. All you have to do is place your faith and trust in Jesus Christ alone to save you. You can do that today, wherever you are at by simply asking Him to save you. Let me help you word a prayer so that you can ask Christ to save you. (Realize it is not the words that save you but the faith and trust you put into Jesus Christ to save you.) “Dear Jesus, I realize that I am a sinner. And because I have sinned I deserve to go to Hell to pay for my sin. But you died on the cross, shed your blood and rose again to pay that price for me. I ask you to forgive me of my sins and come into my heart and save me. I put my faith and trust in You alone to save me and take me to Heaven. Thank you, Jesus. Amen! Accepting Christ as your Saviour is the greatest thing you can ever do in your life. If you accepted Christ I would love to hear from you.
